I just finished this guitar! It’s a 7-string baritone guitar based on my St. Charles Avenue model. Anyone else out there play a 7-string baritone guitar? There’s not too many of them out there in archtop form. That’s for sure!

Guitar Neck Repair On An Archtop Guitar

This neck was broken with a vertical break that is very hard to repair.

I had to make a special fixture to be able to clamp the head and compress it horizontally and vertically at the same time. Of course, you could only clamp the downward pressure until the head of the guitar was at the right degree of angle in relation to the fingerboard gluing it with the west system of epoxy. Then of course you have to clean it all up.

After that, we have to shave off the back of the head approx. 3/32nds to allow for a rear ebony head veneer. This should go into the neck at least an inch pass the crack to insure stability. You have to realize that the strings are pulling approx. 25pds of pressure each so that fibers in the wood of the rear head veneer is what is going to give the neck its strength.

Of course, it is necessary to refinish the complete neck and rematch the colors, and then set the guitar up properly.

I recently finished this St. Charles Avenue archtop guitar. It’s a 6-string archtop guitar adorned with Cresent City Elite headstock and tail piece inlays. This guitar also features a fully bound headstock, neck, and body binding. It has a 5-piece neck with Goto Delta Series tuning keys and a cranberry burst finish.

Gibson SJ Deluxe Acoustic Guitar Repair (Bridge & Face)

This was a Gibson SJ Deluxe acoustic guitar with a cracked bridge block, broken face under the bridge, loose brace and broken bridge.

These repairs involved repairing the bridge plate with a thin veneer to the inside plus routing and adding spruce to the face underneath the bridge. Then I built a handmade bridge slightly over-sized to cover up all the mess on the face!

Of course, cleaning up the entire guitar involved making a new bridge saddle, and all of the adjustments to make it play properly.
